A Good Entry for our First Unmounted A4 Print competition

Submitted by mikec

Over 50 prints were submitted to the society's first 'A4 Unmounted Print Competition'. The purpose behind this new event was to encourage more members to put forward prints, without being daunted by the need to generate A3 sizes, and not having to mount them.

The 'Best Image' was won by experienced worker, Jan Wilding, for her splendid 'Calla Trio' flower study. The 'Best Entry by a New Worker' was taken by Kevin Barnett for 'Olympic Stairway Helsinki'. Both took home bottles of bubbly to aid their Christmas festivities.  Peter Turner provided the best 'B' worker image - 'South Africa, Big Five Elephants'.

Also in the honours were 'A' entrants Ray Groome (HC), Ron Sutton, Dennis Smith - twice, Jeff Ewin and Jan Wilding again (C).

'B' entries gaining awards were from John Pritchard, Neville Holmes, Peter Turner and Rob Tarrant (HC) and Roger Dyson, Terry Hudson, John Hoyle and Sue Booth (C)

Thanks are due to Roger Evans, who judged the images and gave a helpful summary, and to Ian Copley, who secured a number of photographic books from Mifsuds that were presented as prizes.

The images were on display at Christmas Social. In view of the obvious interest, the committee will consider how best to build on this event.
