Chester Photographic Society aims to be a friendly meeting place for those who appreciate quality images. It is a place where members can learn from each other, and from invited speakers, as to how their own work can be improved. Some members have reached high levels of achievement, while others just set out to enjoy their hobby.
The core programme consists of weekly meetings, held on Tuesdays from early September, through to May. Many of these meetings are addressed by experienced photographers and capable speakers, ranging across different photographic interests – such as Landscape, Wildlife and Natural History, Portraiture, Sport, and more. They are entertaining as well as being instructive.
In addition, there are a number of internal competitions both for printed work, and, increasingly popular, for Digitally Projected Images. Registered external judges provide constructive analyses to help members develop their standards. The society submits entries into competitions with other clubs, and individuals are encouraged to participate in exhibitions on their own account.
A number of workshops are held on Sunday afternoons, on topics suggested by members. Recent events have provided teach-ins on photographic software, on macro photography, and how to present your work.
Local events often involve the organisers working with the society, to generate material they can use for publicity, whilst giving our members access to photo opportunities. Recently the Chester Triathlon, and the Chester Marathon have been covered. Outings are organised to locations that present photo opportunities. Some social evenings are arranged.
The main activities can be found in the programme.
