From the Mountains to the Sea

Gary is a completely self-taught Wildlife Photographer, based in the North West close by to the beauty and ruggedness of the Welsh Coast and Snowdonia. Since an early age he has had a complete passion for the outdoors and Wildlife, and is an accomplished mountaineer, but whatever he does and wherever he goes the camera always comes with him. He adores Snowdonia, from the rugged mountains down to the beautiful coastline and these last few years has seen him explore Scotland and its abundant Wildlife. Although he enjoys photographing all wildlife subjects his passion is birds, especially raptors, Ospreys being his absolute favourite.

Going Solo

Jane likes a large range of subjects including People, Places and Nature. She is relatively new to photography, only starting at the end of 2009. After following her husband Adrian around while he took photos, she thought ‘I might as well join him!’ A member of Chorley Photographic Society, in the last five years photography has given her tremendous fun and personal satisfaction. Now a Judge and Lecturer, she has gained her LRPS, CPAGB, DPAGB, MPAGB and BPE5*.

Going Solo comprises in the first half a digital presentation of photography from the Carmargue Horses and Gypsy Festival and a selection of competition images, (including successful MPAGB Images) taking them from the original file to the completed image. In the second half prints will be handed round for close audience viewing and open discussion.

“Gun Nation” - the anatomy of a long-term project

Zed Nelson HonFRPS lives in London. His work has been published and exhibited worldwide.

Having gained recognition and major awards as a documentary photographer working in some of the most troubled areas of the world, Nelson has increasingly turned his focus on Western society, adopting an increasingly conceptual approach to reflect on contemporary social issues.

Gun Nation - a disturbing reflection on America’s deadly love affair with the gun - was Nelson’s seminal first book. The project has been awarded five major international photography prizes and is regarded by many as the definitive body of work on the subject.

Previous awards include the Visa d’Or, France; First Prize in World Press Photo Competition; and the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award, USA.

Nelson’s work has been exhibited at Tate Britain, the ICA and the National Portrait Gallery, and is in the permanent collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum.  Nelson has had solo shows in London, Stockholm and New York.

Trains, ‘Planes & Aircraft Carriers

Air-to-air photographic sorties with Lightnings, Nimrods, and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Avro Lancaster, the latest steam locomotives to grace the UK’s heritage and narrow-gauge railways, and, a memorable ‘cruise’ aboard HMS Illustrious in the Bristol Channel.  This presentation is definitely ‘boys and their toys!’

Gordon has visited us before, and his ‘slide’ presentations are always appreciated
